Tow Boat Inspections and the New Rules
The majority of towboats and pushboats in the workboat
industry
are officially deemed "uninspected vessels." In 2004, however, Congress
passed the Maritime Transportation Act, making the U.S. Coast Guard
responsible for putting
together a set of inspection regulations for these types
of vessels and enforcing them. The new rules regarding
towboat
inspections are scheduled to roll out in 2011
and take four years to be fully implemented
